No. We didn't make an off day road trip to Disney World! This is our team in the center of the French Quarter, NOLA. Our day began back in the St. Roch n'hood as we worked on the house a little more and passed out invites to tomorrow night's cookout in the park. Then we loaded up the bus and headed to Cafe Reconcile in Central City for some good eatin'...collared greens, sweet mashed potatoes, fried catfish, bananas foster, etc... It's great food with a great purpose, to help inner city youth get a 2nd chance through working relationships at the cafe. Next stop, the St. Charles trolley down to the Quarter. We walked around the French Market, around the cathedral, and settled in at Cafe Du Monde for coffe and beignets. After that we made it down to a tabasco sauce shop where several people were standing outside the door looking in. A huge river rat (awe!) had just run into the store and a couple people were trying to catch it. This thing was as big as a cat back home! Of course, Jaren and Cameron, our resident teenagers had to go in for a closer look...it was a pretty funny time (ha!). As we waited for the last trolley out of the city, a lady name Nicole and her baby she carried in her arms, David, approached our group. She told us that another man had ignored her and asked if we might be able to by some baby formula for David. This little dude's face was amazing! One our of team members walked across to CVS and bought the formula, the mother was very grateful for this act of kindness. As we rode away on the trolley, I couldn't help but wonder what David's life we be like in the days ahead. If you think about it, please keep this little guys in your prayers and his mother too. I know God loves them both and I pray they continue to see Him at work in their lives. I tell you, it never fails when we take time to go down to the French Quarter. God always shows up and meets us with an opportunity to love and care for others there. He's at work everywhere if we would just open our eyes, notice those He puts in our path, and follow where He is leading. I thank God for our team and their willingness to represent Christ in every situation.
What a great time of service. Missing you and praying for all of you each day!
