Our team had a great day in the Mid-City neighborhood. We were serving with Hope Christian Church, whose purpose is to Love God, Love People, & Live Like Jesus. You can check out what God is doing through their ministry at www.HopeNewOrleans.org. We walked through the streets handing out flyers for the church. One man stopped his car, his name was Ceral (like cereal). As I gave him a flyer he said, "If it wasn't for people like you'all being here after Katrina, we wouldn't have had anything to eat". It was a very humbling reminder of what had happened here in these neighborhoods. To remember or not to remember? The answer to that question was displayed visually on the outside of the homes. Even some of the fully restored homes, still had the FEMA markings posted by the front door. It was a blessing to see kids playing in the streets, people being good neighbors, and restoration taking place in the city. God continues to use His people to meet both physical and spiritual needs in a place that has so many. Even after walking several miles, our team members had some awesome attitudes and we shared a few laughs along the way. It's a blessing to serve with each of them. I think this sign posted on the fence of a home in Mid-City speaks well to what it means to love and serve others in our world today. I pray that God would give us fresh eyes to see this potential in people He created and that they may one day know and love their Creator.
